13. Questions and answers
Logging
I forgot to log yesterday. Can I still add it?
Yes. Either open the entry form and change the Date, or go to the Month tab, tap the day and use Add → Enter Pain. Entries can be added to any past date.
Why can I only have one entry per hour?
Pain entries are stored per hour so the calendar, the grid export and the hourly chart all line up. If you try to save a second entry in the same hour the app asks whether to replace the first one. If the pain genuinely changed, log the next hour.
Can I log a day with no pain?
Yes — save an entry at level 0. That is different from not logging at all, and the app treats the two differently: an unlogged day is left plain everywhere, a level-0 day is coloured. Switch on Options → Appearance → Color days without pain to make those days green.
My trigger isn't in the suggestions.
Suggestions are built from what you have typed before, so the first time you use a trigger you type it in full. From then on it comes back.
I picked a pain quality in English and switched the app to German. What happens?
The eight built-in qualities are stored in a language-independent way, so they read correctly in whichever language you are using. A quality you typed yourself is stored as you typed it.
Reminders
My reminders aren't appearing.
Check, in this order:
- The bell on the Home screen — is the reminder listed there? If not, it is switched off.
- Whether Android notifications are allowed for Pain Tracker. The reminders screen warns you if they are blocked and offers to open the setting.
- Your phone's battery optimisation for the app. Some manufacturers stop background apps from waking up; allowing Pain Tracker to run in the background fixes it.
Can one medication remind me more than once a day?
Yes, up to four times. Use Add another reminder in the medication's settings. Activities work the same way, and can also be limited to certain weekdays.
What is the follow-up notification?
If an hour passes after a medication reminder and nothing has been logged, the app asks once more: "Did you take your medication?" It does not ask a third time.
Data and privacy
Does anything leave my phone?
No. There is no account, no server, no analytics and no ads. The only time data leaves the device is when you export a PDF, a CSV or a backup and choose where to send it.
How do I move my diary to a new phone?
Options → Export data on the old phone, put the .json file somewhere you can reach it, then Options → Import data on the new one.
Will importing overwrite what I already have?
No. Import only adds what is missing. Nothing is deleted or overwritten, so importing the same file twice is harmless.
Can I get my data out in a format I can read?
Yes — Export CSV from the Month tab gives you a plain spreadsheet with one row per record.
Exports
My doctor wants everything on one page.
Use Options → Export → PDF layout → Hourly grid. One page per month, days as rows, hours as columns.
Our printer is black and white.
Choose the Hourly grid layout and switch Colored cells off. The numbers alone carry the information.
I would rather my triggers weren't printed.
Switch off Options → Export → Include triggers in export.
One of my medications is private.
Open it in Plan → Medications and switch off Include in reports. It stays fully tracked in the app but disappears from PDFs and from the trends chart.
The app itself
How do I delete a medication, activity or pain action?
Long-press its row in the list and choose Delete. Deleting a medication also deletes its intake history.
How do I delete a pain entry?
Tap the bin icon at the end of its row, on the Home screen or in a day's detail.
Can I see the introduction again?
Options → App tour.
Are the insights on the Trends screen medical advice?
No. They are observations about the entries you have made — nothing more. Pain Tracker does not give medical advice and does not replace a doctor.
