About the exam

Are these the real exam questions?
Yes. The app contains BAMF's official complete question catalogue, unchanged: 300 general questions and 10 questions per federal state. The exam draws its 33 questions from exactly this catalogue. How recent the catalogue in the app is stands under Settings → About the questions.

Does the app also cover the “Leben in Deutschland” test?
Yes. The test at the end of the integration course uses the same catalogue and the same format. The result of a test in the app names both thresholds: 17 correct answers for naturalisation and 15 for “Leben in Deutschland”.

Why are the questions in German although I chose another language?
Because the exam is held in German. The language only switches the interface. Questions, answers and explanations stay German, so that you recognise them on the day of the exam.

I have moved. What do I have to do?
Set the new state under Settings → Federal state. You then get its 10 state questions. The general questions and your progress on them stay as they are.

About learning

What is the best way to learn?
One way that works: first go through the catalogue in practice mode, in short practices of 10 questions each. Then use Selection to practise what is still open or was wrong last time. Take tests in between. If you are clearly above 17 in several tests in a row, you are well prepared.

What is the difference between “answered” and “correct last time”?
“Answered” counts every question you have worked on once, even if the answer was wrong. “Correct last time” counts only the questions where your latest answer was right. The second number says what you know.

I answered a question and cannot change the answer any more.
In practice mode that is intended: the answer stays revealed. From the summary at the end of the list, Start over begins a new round. In the test, on the other hand, you can change any answer as long as it is running.

The question numbers jump around.
Then Adaptive practice is switched on: the questions are ordered by how well you know them instead of by their number. Switch it off under Practice → Selection.

Practice mode says “No bookmarked questions in … yet” or something similar.
The filter you chose matches no question. Tap Show all questions in ….

I cannot add another bookmark.
Without Pro there is room for 10 bookmarks. Remove an old one, or unlock Pro.

Does a cancelled test count?
No. A test you cancel with Discard is not saved anywhere. A test in which the time runs out, however, is marked and saved.

About data and privacy

Does the app need the internet?
No. Questions, pictures and explanations are inside the app; practising and testing work in airplane mode. Only buying and restoring Pro need a connection.

What data does the app collect?
None. There is no account, no advertising and no usage analytics. Your progress, bookmarks, notes and tests are on your device only. The full policy: Settings → Privacy policy.

Will my progress survive a new phone?
If Android's automatic backup was switched on on the old phone, Android carries your progress over when you set up the new one. That is done by your phone, not by the app; the app itself has no account through which data could be synchronised.

Will my progress survive an update?
Yes, also when the update brings a new question catalogue.

How do I delete everything?
Settings → Reset statistics deletes progress, bookmarks, notes and tests. If you uninstall the app, everything it stored is gone.

About Pro

Is Pro a subscription?
No. You pay once.

I bought Pro, but the app does not show it.
Go to Settings → Restore purchase. Make sure you are signed in to the Play Store with the account you bought with. More in chapter 8.

Can I use Pro on several devices?
Yes, on every device with the same Google account.

The app looks different on my phone

Other colours. From Android 12 on, the app takes over the colours of your wallpaper. Under Settings → Appearance you also choose light or dark.

The bar is at the side. On tablets and in landscape the four areas stand on the left instead of at the bottom.

Larger text. The app follows your phone's font size. With very large text, some labels are replaced by their symbol.
